Hiker Rescued Kalalau Beach

First responders rescued a 36-year-old female Massachusetts visitor at Kalalau Beach on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, reports the County of Kauai.

Kauai Fire Department (KFD) personnel with the Hanalei fire station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident. According to a preliminary report, KFD received a report of an apparent dehydrated hiker near Kalalau Beach at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Thursday.

When Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived at the Kalalau Beach scene, they found the hiker, who reported dehydration. She was transported to Princeville Airport to awaiting personnel from the Hanalei fire station and American Medical Response. After being assessed by medical personnel, she was released on the scene and declined medical transport.

Kalalau Beach is the idyllic beach at the end of Kauai’s legendary Kalalau Trail. Traversing 11 miles along the island’s Na Pali Coast, the Kalalau Trail is a scenic, but somewhat arduous, trail in hot and humid conditions. Staying properly hydrated on this trail is paramount for a successful trek.
