On Wednesday, March 29th, 2023, first responders conducted multiple vehicle rescues in the Lawai area during a Flash Flood Warning, reports the County of Kauai. First responders rescued two females in a vehicle from a flooded portion of Lawai Road near the National Tropical Botanical Gardens at approximately 1:40 PM. Shortly after, at approximately 2:25 PM, a Good Samaritan and first responders rescued a man from a vehicle that had been swept into the Lawai Stream.
“Mahalo to our first responders and Good Samaritans for rescuing three individuals during yesterday’s Flash Flood Warning,” said Kauai Fire Department Chief Michael Gibson. “Fast-flowing or rising water in streams and roads are very unpredictable during Flash Flood Warning conditions. As a reminder, please heed all warnings during extreme weather events for the safety of yourself, others, and our first responders.”
