Kauai Fire Department and bystanders assist in Fourth of July helicopter rescue at Kalalau Beach.
A 38-year-old female visitor from Kansas was rescued by helicopter from Kalalau Beach on Friday, July 4, 2025 after injuring her ankle while kayaking, reports the County of Kauai.
The Kauai Fire Department responded to the emergency call at approximately 10:50 a.m. Crews from the Hanalei Fire Station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and American Medical Response were dispatched to the remote beach.
Firefighters arrived at Kalalau Beach at about 12:10 p.m. and found the woman sitting in a kayak under trees, being assisted by bystanders. Responders assessed her condition and splinted her ankle.
With help from bystanders, the woman was carried to a landing zone, then transported by Air 1 to Princeville Airport. She was transferred to waiting paramedics for further medical care.
