Kauai is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and that includes the secluded and serene Papaa Bay Beach. Located on the eastern shore of Kauai near Anahola, this hidden gem offers a relaxing and peaceful retreat for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is one of the least-mentioned beaches on Kauai, but also one of the most beautiful. The beach was notably featured in the movie Six Days, Seven Nights starring Harrison Ford and Anne Heche.
Getting to Papaa Bay Beach
The beach is accessible via a short trail, which makes the journey to the bay more adventurous and exciting. The trail starts near the North Aliomanu Beach (map) parking area and proceeds down through light vegetation to the bay, then across some shoreline rocks to get to the sand. The trail is not too strenuous, but it can be slippery, so make sure to wear appropriate shoes. The hike takes around five minutes to get from the parking area to the bay, then about another five minutes across the rocks.
The Beach
When you arrive at Papaa Bay Beach, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking view of turquoise waters and soft golden sand. The beach is relatively small, with plenty of rocks and tide pools to explore at low tide. The clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and you can spot various marine life.
