Queen’s Bath at Princeville Closed Through the Winter

Queen's Bath Closed

Effective October 6th, 2023, access to Queen’s Bath has been closed through the winter in the interest of public safety, reports the County of Kauai.

Queen’s Bath is a popular but controversial destination in the Princeville area. Visitors love the natural “hot tub” like ocean pool and the area’s extraordinary beauty, but it can also be a very dangerous place with large waves crashing over the rocks and pool. Numerous injuries and deaths have occurred at Queen’s Bath, notably in the winter months when the waves are much larger and more unpredictable.

Several years ago, a chain link fence and gate were added to the trailhead for the path that leads down to the Queen’s Bath area. Unfortunately, the gate can be easily bypassed by just going to the end of the fence.

“We urge the public that entry in these hazardous conditions can result in injuries or drownings, and neglecting these warnings places our first responders’ lives unnecessarily at risk,” said Kauai Fire Department Chief Michael Gibson.
