Two visitors from Texas, ages 44 and 45, were rescued from Kauai’s Kalalau Trail on Thursday, July 24th, 2025, reports the County of Kauai.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly after 1:50 p.m. Personnel with the Lihue Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on scene at Kalalau Beach and found two distressed hikers, one with an alleged ankle injury and another with an alleged heatstroke. The hikers were loaded onto the helicopter at the Kalalau Beach landing zone and flown to Princeville Airport. Upon landing, both hikers refused further medical attention.
Know Before You Go
The Kalalau Trail is not your average hike. Stretching 11 miles one way along Kauai’s dramatic Na Pali Coast, the trail traverses valleys, cliffside paths, and several stream crossings before reaching Kalalau Beach. The route can be punishing in hot or wet conditions, and even seasoned hikers have found themselves in trouble. Anyone planning to make the journey should train well in advance, carry plenty of water and food, pack appropriate gear, and secure a valid camping permit. Kalalau is stunning—but it demands preparation, caution, and respect.
