The Historic Kong Lung Market Center in the charming town of Kilauea delightfully blends history, culture and shopping into an appealing experience of exploration and discovery. The historical core of the center, Kong Lung Trading, offers gifts, decor, apparel, art and jewelry from around the world, particularly from Asia. The building was constructed by the Kilauea Sugar Company in 1941 with stones gathered from the area’s sugar plantation fields. The building replaced former stores that had been in operation since the 1890s. Originally known as the Kilauea Plantation Store, it was open from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m., operated by sugar plantation workers before they went to work in the fields. The Kong Lung Store was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Today, the Kong Lung Store has metamorphosed into a diverse collection of locally owned shops and dining.
