Kauai County’s Department of Public Works is asking the public to avoid the Ninini Point area as crews conduct fire mitigation work starting Monday, September 23rd, 2024, reports the County of Kauai. Crews will be removing debris and cutting and maintaining vegetation through the Summer of 2025.
Ninini Point, located near the entrance to Nawiliwili Bay, includes the Ninini Point Lighthouse. Though not a tourist attraction like the famous Kilauea Lighthouse, the lighthouse does attract a small number of tourists/visitors throughout the day, as well as a few local residents who use the point to hang out and fish. The location is also popular for planespotting, as passenger jets fly directly over the lighthouse before landing shortly at the Lihue Airport.
