Hiker With Shoulder Injury Rescued on Kalalau Trail

On Thursday, March 27th, 2025, a 35-year-old hiker from Ohio was rescued from Kauai’s Kalalau Trail after sustaining a shoulder injury. The incident prompted a swift response from the Kauai Fire Department and other local emergency services.

First responders received the report just after 5:30 pm, indicating the injured hiker was located near Hanakapiai Beach, a popular but rugged area along the Kalalau Trail. The Lihue Fire Station quickly dispatched Air 1, the department’s helicopter, to reach the hiker in the remote location.

Upon arrival, first responders found the hiker with an apparent shoulder injury. The hiker was safely loaded into Air 1 and flown to Princeville Airport, where personnel from the Hanalei Fire Station and American Medical Response were waiting.

The entire rescue operation was completed by 6:40 pm. Thanks to the quick and coordinated efforts of the Kauai Fire Department and other emergency responders, the injured visitor received timely care.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with hiking on Kauai’s rugged terrain, particularly on the Kalalau Trail, which is known for its challenging conditions. The trail attracts hikers from around the world, many of whom are unprepared for the physical demands it requires.
