A 74-year-old Kilauea man died Monday morning, April 7th, 2025 after being pulled unresponsive from the water at Kalihiwai Beach. The victim has been identified as Peter Koorenhof.
Emergency crews were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m. Bystanders had already begun CPR when first responders from the Ocean Safety Bureau and American Medical Response arrived. Lifesaving efforts continued before Koorenhof was taken to Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death. Police say foul play is not suspected.
