Kilauea Point Lighthouse and Refuge to Close February 17 – April 30

Kilauea Lighthouse Closed

The Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to public access from February 17th through April 30th, 2025 for repairs to the main entryway and associated infrastructure as a result of storm and flooding damage sustained in 2020 and 2021, reports the Refuge on their Instagram page.

Repairs will include replacing and widening the main entrance road, enhanced markings and drainage, and replacement of the main waterline and a section of fencing. For status updates, visit the Refuge website or reservation page at Recreation.gov. In the Instagram post announcing the closure, the Refuge apologizes for the inconvenience and looks forward to an improved visitor experience upon reopening.

The Kilauea Lighthouse and National Wildlife Refuge is undoubtedly one of Kauai’s top attractions, drawing visitors with its abundant marine wildlife, stunning coastal views and historical significance. Though, the lighthouse’s closure for repairs will be felt by both tourists and locals alike, the hope is that the restoration will preserve this cherished landmark for future generations.

NOTE: The Recreation.gov web page states the closure will start February 16th.
