Puu Hinahina Lookout: A Breathtaking View of Waimea Canyon

One of the best places to enjoy the wonders of Waimea Canyon is at the Puu Hinahina Lookout. Located in Waimea Canyon State Park, the lookout offers expansive views of Waimea Canyon and the surrounding landscape, making it a must-visit destination for people who love the great outdoors. With paved parking and restrooms, the Puu Hinahina Lookout, along with the Waimea Canyon Lookout, is one of the two main lookouts at Waimea Canyon.

Puu Hinahina Lookout

From the lookout you can see straight down the colorful canyon, a different perspective than can be found at the Waimea Canyon Lookout. From this vantage point, the lush valley floor is revealed in green amidst the red and brown hues of the canyon’s walls. The Waimea River, which appears as a thin white ribbon, can be seen winding its way through the canyon. Another viewpoint at the lookout offers distant views of Niihau Island.

The Canyon Trail can be seen in the middle of this photo (the exposed trail at the top of the ridge).

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also hike nearby trails and explore the area on foot. The Cliff Trail starts at the lookout and connects to the popular Canyon Trail which takes hikers to the top of Waipoo Falls. However, the Cliff Trail generally has obstructed views of Waimea Canyon and we recommend just starting at the regular trailhead of Canyon Trail for that journey. Located nearby, the Canyon Trail can be seen from the lookout.

The Puu Hinahina Lookout is included in the entry fees for Waimea Canyon State Park (and Kokee State Park). Payment kiosks for the entry fees are available at the lookout. (See our Waimea Canyon page for more information on fees for non-residents.)

The picturesque lookout is located on Waimea Canyon Road past mile marker 13 (about three miles beyond the Waimea Canyon Lookout). Be sure to stop by this wonderful destination along with your other Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park adventures to experience the best the area has to offer.
