Getting to Papaa Bay Beach

Papaa Bay Beach Trail Map

The beach is accessible via a short trail, which makes the journey to the bay more adventurous and exciting. The trail starts near the North Aliomanu Beach (map) parking area and proceeds down through light vegetation to the bay, then across some shoreline rocks to get to the sand. The trail is not too strenuous, but it can be slippery, so make sure to wear appropriate shoes. The hike takes around five minutes to get from the parking area to the bay, then about another 5 minutes across the rocks.

The Beach

Papaa Bay Beach

When you arrive at Papaa Bay Beach, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking view of turquoise waters and soft golden sand. The beach is relatively small, with plenty of rocks and tide pools to explore at low tide. The clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and you can spot various marine life.

Papaa Bay Beach

One of the remarkable features of Papaa Bay Beach are the rock formations that are especially prominent at low tide. These rocks, which have been shaped by the waves over time, create a natural barrier that protects the beach from strong waves and currents. They also provide a unique backdrop for beautiful photos.

The House

Papaa Bay Beach

In case you’re wondering about the huge house set back from the beach, the house was built by movie producer Peter Gruber after the filming of the movie Six Days, Seven Nights. The property is 174 acres and the house is over 15,000 square feet. Gruber named the house Tara, after his wife (not after the house in Gone With the Wind). In 2009, the property sold for $28 million. All property behind the beach is private, so you will want to stay on the beach to avoid trespassing.
