The Princeville Fountain (Princeville Neptune Fountain) stands as a remarkable testament to the convergence of artistry, ambition and natural beauty. Inspired by the “Fountain of Love” during a visit to the Cliveden House, Australian entrepreneur Christopher Skase, who had acquired 7,000 acres of land in Princeville, envisioned a similarly grand fountain to adorn the entrance to the master-planned community. Determined to bring his vision to life, Skase commissioned the construction of what would become the Princeville Fountain.
In 1989, twelve skilled artisans in Italy embarked on the monumental task of sculpting a 900-ton piece of marble to realize Skase’s vision. Over the course of a year, these artisans painstakingly crafted the intricate details and elegant curves of the fountain. The result was a magnificent 200-ton masterpiece that radiated elegance and grandeur.
Transporting such a colossal work of art across the ocean was no small feat. Packed into eleven containers, the fountain embarked on a journey from Italy to Kauai, where it would find its permanent home. Upon arrival, four of the original artisans undertook the meticulous task of reassembling the fountain—a process that spanned four months and required precision and expertise.
Despite the challenges posed by its size and weight, the Princeville Fountain was successfully installed at its current location, where it has since become a beloved landmark. Welcoming visitors with its graceful presence, the fountain serves as a grand reception to the lush vegetation and natural beauty of Kauai’s North Shore.
