Brennecke’s Beach, the pastel blue cove next to Poipu Beach Park on Kauai’s south shore, is the island’s most popular spot for body boarding and body surfing. With its consistent shore break and perfect wave conditions, the beach has become a mecca for boogie boarders from around the island and beyond, offering an unforgettable experience for riders of all skill levels.

While boogie boarding takes center stage at Brennecke’s Beach, snorkeling opportunities can be found beyond the break. Snorkeling enthusiasts can venture into the water and discover the vibrant underwater world brimming with fascinating marine life. However, caution is urged as the water can often be choppy and turbulent. And rip currents are always a threat at Brennecke’s due to the narrow shape of the cove.

The beach is framed by lava rocks on both sides and there are some rocks on the bottom, so watch out. Sometimes, the waves can be too strong, and it’s best to stay out of the water during choppy conditions.

This is a “locals” beach, but visitors are welcomed who respect the place and people. Surfing is not allowed at Brennecke’s.
